Custom Mouthguard Trinity, FL

Did you know that sports-related injuries are one of the leading causes of dental emergencies

Patients who play contact sports without adequate dental protection are more prone to experience chipped teeth, jaw pain, and tooth loss. One of the best ways to protect your smile during contact sports is with a custom fit mouthguard.

A custom-fit mouthguard offers the ultimate protection against sports-related injury; it is designed to fit comfortably over your teeth and provide ample protection against contact to your teeth and jaw. As a result, patients are more likely to wear their mouthguard during physical activity.

At Smiles of Trinity Family Dentistry, we offer custom mouthguards for sports to patients of all ages. Our team understands the importance of protecting the natural teeth, so we offer a full range of treatment options to help you do so.

Custom Mouthguards VS. “Boil and Bite” Mouthguards

While some protection is better than no protection, it is still important to work with an experienced dentist who understands the importance of custom mouthguards. With a custom mouthguard, your dentist can use your specific measurements to create a mouthguard that not only fits comfortably in your mouth but also protects your teeth.

An over-the-counter mouthguard, also known as boil and bite mouthguards, offer minimal protection to the teeth when compared to custom mouthguards. They are softened in hot water and then placed in your mouth in order to conform to the shape of your mouth.

Custom Mouthguards For Sports in Trinity, FL

Receiving a custom mouthguard will require at least two visits to our dental practice. In many cases, a mouthguard is only designed to cover the upper teeth, but in some cases, we may recommend a mouthguard for the lower teeth. During the first visit, we will assess your smile and determine the best option for you.

Once the plan is established, Dr. Gianni Franceschi, DDS, FICOI will take impressions of your mouth and send the information to a local dental lab. He will also discuss customizable details such as the color and the fit of your mouthguard to ensure it meets your needs.

Once the mouthguard is finished, we will invite you back to our office, where Dr. Franceschi, DDS, FICOI will fit your mouthguard and make any final adjustments. After your last appointment, you are free to use your mouthguard.

We do recommend that younger patients visit our office more regularly for routine fittings to ensure we provide them with a mouthguard that is tailored to their growing smiles.
