Man holding an appleDentures at our New Port Richey, FL, practice can be an effective solution for restoring your smile's look and function. At Smiles of Trinity Dentistry, we offer both traditional and implant-supported dentures, each of which offer unique benefits. Dentures can be an appropriate solution for patients missing an entire row of teeth or needing to replace all of their teeth. Depending on the option you choose, your prosthetic may be removable or permanently held in place with dental implants. Dr. Gianni Franceschi can help you decide what type of denture is right for you.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Franceschi will provide a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and jawbone to help determine the type of denture that would work best for your needs.

Traditional Dentures vs. Implant-supported Dentures

During your initial consultation, Dr. Franceschi will provide a thorough examination of your gums, jawbone, and any remaining teeth determine the type of denture that would work best for your needs.

Traditional Dentures

This device is designed with a gum-colored acrylic base and natural-looking composite acrylic teeth to help restore the aesthetics and function of your smile. Simply held in place with suction and an adhesive, it should be removed each night for cleaning and while you sleep. Compared to implant-supported restorations, traditional dentures are more affordable, often covered by insurance, and provide a quick solution to replacing missing teeth.

Implant-Supported Dentures

This type of denture provides superior stability and durability, making it a more appealing option to traditional dentures. You never have to worry about this type of denture slipping or moving out of place. However, it will require the placement of dental implants, which will take at least four to six months to recover from. These small titanium posts will be surgically inserted into your jawbone in order to replace your natural tooth roots. Once you have recovered, your natural-looking porcelain or zirconia restoration will be permanently attached. Implant-supported dentures are designed to look and feel like your natural teeth, and they are designed to last a lifetime. Importantly, the implants will help your jawbone remain healthy and strong by drawing nutrients to the area.

What to Expect During Your Denture Consultation

During your initial consultation, Dr. Franceschi will provide a thorough examination of your gums, jawbone, and any remaining teeth determine the type of denture that would work best for your needs. For traditional dentures, he will take impressions of your mouth to be sent to a lab to design your natural-looking restoration. In most cases, your device will be ready in about two to three weeks.

For implant-supported dentures, dental implants will first need to be surgically placed. In about four to six months, once you have fully recovered, Dr. Franceschi will then take impressions for your custom-made restoration to be designed at a state-of-the-art lab. Once it is completed, he will check the restoration to ensure it properly fits before permanently attaching it.

With your custom-designed dentures in place, you will be able to enjoy:

  • Improved speech
  • Increase in self-confidence
  • Ability to eat a wide variety of foods
  • Normalized appearance
